Having grown up in Maine and having zero interest in ever living there again, I was not excited that we would be welcomed on our visit by a TON of snow. Shelby and I were however, both excited to see my grandparents and sisters for a few short days. I had not been in Maine since my father’s funeral in September 2013. Of course I was not going to leave my mom behind … we were visiting her mom and kids 🙂
In our seats and ready to go! If you have ever flown to Maine you know that it is a long day always with a stop! journey to the goal
I love it that my child actually reads real books! We have actually been told by a flight attendant on a different flight that she never sees kids reading anymore … they are always on their electronic devices. Not that Shelby doesn’t have over her fair share of those too … but she loves books like her mommy.
It was a long day! We didn’t get to my grandparents until about 3am!! This is what we woke up to out the window! Shelby was stoked!
I don’t think it even took an hour after waking up before Shelby was ready to get dressed to get out in the snow. Living in Texas we don’t have much in the way of snow gear so my grandmother made sure to get some gear in her size and had it waiting for her.
All bundled up and ready to go. I remember being a kid and loving playing in the snow … as an adult … not so much! BURR!!
This is actually a snowbank right outside my grandparents house! Just one of the smaller ones!
A few hanging icicles … Pretty … but watch out when they start to melt!
Here we are off for a tubing adventure in the snow. We did not come totally prepared (especially me!) so it was a mix of all things warm I could pull together and layer to stay as warm as possible. Not my most fashionista moment 🙂
Love having my picture taken with this girl no matter how silly I look!
Shelby holding her “snowball baby” … I had to pry it from her hands so we could get tubing!
Black Mountain Ski Resort … Nice picture of my mom, Shelby, and I 🙂
Here we go … lugging our tubes to the pully line for our first ride down the slope!
Shelby finds this a little bit harder than she thought, but I made her tow her own (hehehe). You want to ride you got to put in the work to get the fun!
Up the tow line Shelby goes!
A funny snow seat for Shelby to lay back and relax in! You don’t find these just anywhere!
A pretty view off into the distance. An overcast day … but that’s kinda Maine in a nutshell.
One of the days we were in Maine we drove about 2 1/2 hours to one of my little sisters houses for an afternoon of visiting. I had actually never even seen her new house so that was a bonus. I have two younger sisters, both in the picture below. They both still reside in Maine … I think they are CRAZY 🙂
My girl Shelby and my one and only niece on my side of the family. My mom is a little disappointed to only have two but I have a feeling that is all she is going to get out of her three girls!
The day was actually a bit warmer then the days before … the girls enjoyed their time together very much. They don’t see each other but about once a year … that’s the hardest part about living so far away from family.
We were also fortunate enough to go and visit with some old friends of the family and Shelby got to play with an old friend for awhile at their house. More time in the snow!
We don’t have any climbing trees near us in Texas … Shelby could not help but shimmy up in this one. She didn’t want to get down!
After a long day of family, friends, and lots of playing in the snow Shelby was one tired little girl! My grandmother’s house does not have a heat source upstairs … what?! I know that’s what I have always said all the years I stayed over there. Shelby decided the best way to stay toasty was to bundle up from head to toe. I think it is adorable 🙂
On our way to the airport to fly home to Texas we went to one of my favorite resturants in Portland Maine. It is right on the water and always provides an awesome view to eat some fresh Maine seafood.
Just a silly snapshot before we head off to the airport after a wonderful lunch.
On the plane … All set to go … Looking forward to being home and back to some warmer weather.
It was wonderful to see my family and to watch Shelby have such a great time in my home state … BUT I can’t wait to touch down in Texas and set foot back in my own house. Hmmmm, nothing like home!
